Crossville , which claims to be the “Golf Capital of Tennessee,” is located in Cumberland County approximately an hour from Knoxville. It boasts the well-known retirement resort, Fairfield Glade, which includes 90 holes of golf. Also, Crossville is near the site of Jack Nicklaus’ Bear Trace at Cumberland Mountain State Park and is home to a total of eleven championship golf courses in all. Many golf course designers have incorporated the beautiful mountain streams, rock formations and rolling hills into their layouts. Crossville also has historic sites, antique stores and outlet shopping, a wide variety of restaurants and world-class theater. In addition, great weather in the Cumberland Plateau region makes outdoor recreation possible nearly year ‘round. Be sure to check out the Historic Crossville Depot, which is now a one-of-a-kind shop that offers freshly brewed gourmet coffees and teas, as well as creative and beautiful gifts. Crossville Centennial Park is a 40-acre park that offers horseshoe pits, lighted softball fields, sand volleyball courts, tennis courts, covered picnic shelters, a playground and a half-mile wood chip walking trail. Just a short drive from Crossville is the Cumberland Mountain State Park on U.S. Highway 127 South, which includes the 35-acre Byrd Lake for swimming, boating, fishing and canoeing. Camping is also available at Cumberland Mountain State Park.

Crossville Weather & Climate

South-Central Tennessee has a moderate four-season climate with warm, humid summers and mild, wet winters. Rainfall is distributed fairly evenly throughout the year, and thunderstorms are common in spring and summer. The higher elevations of the Smokies, Blue Ridge and Appalachian Mountains are generally cooler in the summer and colder, more blustery in the wintertime. Fall tends to be the dry season, due to the higher frequency of slow-moving high-pressure systems during this season. Average annual snowfall ranges from 4-6 inches in the south and west to over 10 inches in the east. Due to the mild winter conditions over most of the state, snow cover rarely lasts for more than a few days. Severe storms, such as tornadoes, are very infrequent in Tennessee.
