Sparta
is the county seat for White County, located in the very center of Tennessee. This small town boasts a low crime rate, a booming economy and a pleasant small town atmosphere, surrounded by the mountains and lakes of the Cumberland Valley and Plateau. Historic Liberty Square in downtown Sparta is filled with vintage shops and restaurants, antique shops and arts and crafts stores. Sparta exudes southern charm with its beautifully restored century old buildings and picturesque river that meanders through the town. Surrounding the town are many parks and hiking trails, waterfalls and hills and valleys. Recreational activities include hiking, biking, fishing, boating, horseback riding, camping and picnicking. Every third Friday in Sparta, May-October, music lovers come to enjoy Bluegrass at the Amphitheater and to visit the monument to hometown legend Lester Flatt. Also, every third Saturday, April-October, classic and antique cars roll into town for the "Cruise In Car Show." Sparta offers a pleasant, peaceful experience in the heart of one of the country's most beautiful regions - a welcome change from the hectic pace of city life.

Sparta Weather & Climate

The highly varied topography has a significant impact on Tennessee's climate. The landscape varies from gently rolling lowlands in the west, rising to the Highland Rim enclosing the Central Basin and on up to the Cumberland Plateau which tracks northeast-southwest across the state in a belt 30-5- miles wide. The Great Smoky Mountains dominates the eastern portion of the state. The Cumberland Plateau Region averages 50-55 inches of precipitation each year, with the greatest in winter and early spring. Thunderstorm activity can be expected in summer. Average snowfall ranges from 4-6 inches in the south and west, and due to the relatively mild conditions, it rarely persists for more than a few days. Severe weather, such as tornadoes, is rare in Tennessee.
