Sevierville is a historical town located southeast of Knoxville in the beautiful foothills of the Great Smoky Mountains near Douglas Lake. The town was named after Tennessee's first governor, John Sevier, and it's probably most well known today for being the birthplace of country singer, Dolly Parton. The town of Sevierville offers golf, arts & crafts shops, historical museums, antique stores, water slides, fishing, hiking, horseback riding and camping. Sevierville also holds an abundance of special community events throughout the year, including a Smoky Mountains Harvest Festival and Dumplin Valley Bluegrass Festival, both in September. An Annual Fall Festival is held in early October, complete with arts & crafts, lots of good food, bluegrass music, mule wagon rides and lots more fun. Also, if you happen to be visiting in the wintertime, from early November through February, the town of Sevierville is transformed into a wonderland of dazzling lights and decorations and special shows for the whole family. Sevierville is considered a "gateway city" to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park and is just short drive to Dollywood, Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg. The Smoky Mountains are 95 percent wilderness, with waterfalls, streams, lush forest and gorgeous vistas. Dozens of hiking trails can be found in the area, as well as white water rafting, canoeing, trout fishing and mountain climbing. Nearby Gatlinburg is home to the only ski resort in Tennessee, and sledding, cross-country skiing and snowshoeing can also be enjoyed in the Sevierville area.

Sevierville Weather & Climate

The Great Smoky Mountains,  with its' tracts of old-growth forest and mountain ridges draped in a hazy-blue "smoky fog" has a climate that varies greatly depending on the season and the elevation. Weather conditions within the National Park can change without notice, so visitors should be prepared for almost anything. Elevations in the park range from 800 feet to over 6,000 feet and topography affects local weather. Temperatures will be 10 to 20 degrees cooler on the mountaintops. Spring is often unpredictable and summer is hot and humid, but more pleasant at the higher elevations. Fall has warm days with cool nights and is the driest season. The first frost is usually in late September and winter is generally moderate, but more extreme conditions occur with increasing elevation.
