Pigeon Forge is a fun-filled, family vacation spot near Gatlinburg and the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. There’s something for everyone in Pigeon Forge, starting with miniature golf, go-carts, bumper boats and water slides, music and entertainment ranging from theater, jugglers, magic shows and even Elvis impersonators! Pigeon Forge is home to Dollywood, an entertainment park filled with music and food, rides, mountain crafts demonstrations and much more. Other attractions in Pigeon Forge include the Old Mill, an 1830s gristmill still in operation, and Cade’s Cove. The latter is an 11 mile scenic drive in a peaceful valley around historic log structures and homes that have been preserved and offers visitors a look into the way life was lived in the mountains in the early 1800s. Outdoor activities around Pigeon Forge are abundant and include swimming, fishing, horseback riding, golf, and 800 miles of trails in the Great Smoky Mountains for hiking and exploring. Biking is permitted in Cade’s Cove only. There are dozens of shopping malls and outlets in Pigeon Forge, and fast food and family style restaurants are plentiful in the area. A short drive south of Pigeon Forge takes you to the town of Gatlinburg and its many art galleries, specialty shops, village malls and restaurants.

The Great Smoky Mountains,  with its%u2019 tracts of old-growth forest and mountain ridges draped in a hazy-blue %u201Csmoky fog%u201D has a climate that varies greatly depending on the season and the elevation. Weather conditions within the National Park can change without notice, so visitors should be prepared for almost anything. Elevations in the park range from 800 feet to over 6,000 feet and topography affects local weather. Temperatures will be 10 to 20 degrees cooler on the mountaintops. Spring is often unpredictable and summer is hot and humid, but more pleasant at the higher elevations. Fall has warm days with cool nights and is the driest season. The first frost is usually in late September and winter is generally moderate, but more extreme conditions occur with increasing elevation.
