Decatur is the county seat of Meigs County in rural southeast Tennessee. This quaint little town’s biggest draw is Watts Bar Lake and its 771 miles of scenic shoreline. The lake is outstanding for fishing and boating, and also has swimming, water skiing, sailing, hiking and biking, horseback riding and picnicking. There are also marinas and public boat ramps found around the lake, and canoe and boat rentals are nearby. Decatur is located in the hills of Tennessee where life is peaceful and unhurried, with green forests, waterfalls, unusual rock formations and deep gorges - a wildlife and bird watchers paradise! One of the most interesting attractions near Decatur is The Lost Sea. This is an unusual body of water, deep inside a mountain near the town of Sweetwater. It’s listed in the Guinness Book of World Records as the largest underground lake in the world and is part of an extensive cave system called The Craighead Caverns. Visitors can take a glass-bottom boat ride and view the rainbow trout stocked in the lake. The town of Decatur is also just a short drive to The Great Smoky Mountains, Gatlinburg, Pigeon Forge, Chattanooga and Lookout Mountain.
