Tellico Plains sits at the base of the Great Smoky Mountains in the Tennessee Valley, at the entrance to the Cherokee National Forest. This tiny town has a population of less than 1,000, but has much to offer visitors in the way of outdoor adventure and natural beauty. This is a town with a friendly “down home” atmosphere, where the pace is slow and no one is in a hurry. The choices for outdoor fun in Tellico Plains are endless. Just a sample of the things to do includes hiking in the Cherokee National Forest, fishing for trout on the Tellico and North Rivers, kayaking Baby Falls, panning for gold on Coker Creek, and enjoying the spectacular views on the Cherohala Skyway. But that’s not all, there is also white water rafting, canoeing, picnicking, and just enjoying the country backroads and beautiful mountain scenery. The “Waters of Many Steps,” a seven-stair-step waterfalls on Coker Creek in the Cherokee National Forest is a must see. Other nearby attractions includes Bald River Falls, the Fort Loudon Historic Area, The Lost Sea and the Sequoyah Museum. In Tellico Plains, you’ll find cabins and camping, bed & breakfasts and country inns, and quaint country shops – everything you need for a fun-filled and relaxing vacation!

Tellico Plains Weather & Climate

Southeastern Tennessee has a temperate climate with four seasons. Winters are generally short and mild, and summers are warm and humid, with cooler temperatures in the high mountain regions. Rain is common year round. The average annual snowfall for the state is 12 inches. Spring comes in early March with warmer weather and flowering trees and shrubs. Summer arrives full force in the region by mid May, bringing warm weather and higher humidity. The mountains of eastern Tennessee are a great place to escape the hot summer temperatures as the higher elevation cools the air slightly. Fall brings mild days and crisp evenings, along with brilliant foliage colors. Mid to late October is a good time to visit the region to experience the fall color change. Severe weather, such as tornadoes or blizzards, is rare in the state of Tennessee.
