Bluff-City is a small town of approximately 1,300 residents, located in Sullivan County in Northeast Tennessee, near the Cherokee National Forest. This is mostly a rural, hilly agricultural area, near the South Fork of the Holston River - a perfect getaway for those looking for a quiet spot in the Tennessee countryside. Recreational activities in the Bluff City area include fishing and hunting, wildlife viewing, canoeing, rafting, hiking and golf. The community of Johnson City is about twelve miles south, and is a vibrant city that offers shopping and restaurants, as well as 19 parks and 5 recreational areas for visitors to enjoy. Just to the east of Bluff City is the spectacular Cherokee National Forest, which stretches from Chattanooga all the way to Bristol along the North Carolina border. This 640,000-acre forest is the largest tract of public land in Tennessee, and lies in the heart of the Appalachian Mountain Range. In the National Forest, one can experience the excitement of canoeing, kayaking or rafting on one of five whitewater rivers, each with its' own special characteristics and beauty. A variety of trails are also available in the park, with different levels of difficulty, for hiking, horseback riding and bicycling. Other activities in the Cherokee National Forest include camping, hunting and fishing and scenic drives. Other places of interest within an easy day's drive of Bluff City include the Tipton-Hayes Historic Site in Johnson City, the birthplace of Davy Crockett in Greeneville and the Bristol Motor Speedway and Bristol Caverns.

Bluff City Weather & Climate

The climate of the northeastern Tennessee mountains is temperate with moderately cold winters and warm, humid summers. Precipitation is fairly well distributed throughout the year; as there is no distinct wet or dry seasons. October has the least rainfall, July the most. Snowfall is quite variable from year to year, and some winters have relatively little. Thunderstorms occur anytime of the year, but are most frequent in spring and summer. Summer temperatures are rarely extreme, but the high humidity often makes it seem hotter than it actually is. Snow is minimal in Tennessee except in the higher mountain regions. Severe storms are infrequent in the state, being east of the center of tornado activity, south of most blizzard conditions, and too far inland to be affected by hurricanes.
