Monteagle Weather & Climate

Southeastern Tennessee has a mild climate with four distinct seasons. The principal source of moisture comes from the Gulf of Mexico to the south, which results in a gradual decrease of precipitation from south to north. The Cumberland Plateau Region averages 50-55 inches of precipitation each year, with the greatest in winter and early spring. Thunderstorm activity can be expected in summer. Average snowfall averages 12 inches statewide but due to the relatively mild conditions, it rarely persists for more than a few days. Summers are usually warm and humid, with cooler temperatures in the high mountain regions. Severe weather, such as tornadoes or blizzards, is almost unheard of in the state, although severe thunderstorms with damaging winds are experienced at scattered locations throughout the region each year.
