Greenback
sits in the hills of eastern Tennessee, approximately 25 miles southwest of Knoxville. It’s a small town steeped in history and natural beauty, and has become very popular with retirees and tourists looking for outdoor recreation in a less hectic atmosphere. The town of Greenback is in southeastern Loudon County, which in recent years has become known as “The Lakeway to the Smokies.” There are several lakes and rivers within ten miles of Greenback, including Tellico Lake, Fort Loudoun, Watts Bar and Melton Hill Lake, making this area a playground for water sports of all kinds. Nearby Lenoir City is home to the largest marina in Tennessee. Several other lakeside marinas and parks give visitors plenty of opportunities for boating, fishing, swimming, water skiing and picnicking. There are seven golf courses in the area and a local archery range and pro shop, as well as a beautiful city park in Greenback with hiking trails and children’s playground. For unique shopping, Loudon County is full of antique shops and arts & crafts galleries. And for history buffs, there are local museums and historic walking tours. For even more culture, Greenback is just thirty minutes to the Knoxville Symphony, Opera and Ballet Company.

Greenback Weather & Climate

The Knoxville Region in eastern Tennessee is in a temperate climate zone. The summers are always warm and humid and the winters are brief and mild. Spring arrives early and stays for a long time and is alive with dogwoods, azaleas and other beautiful flowers. The average annual temperature for the region is 60 degrees F. The average annual snowfall for the entire state is 12 inches, and with the mild climate, snow rarely stays on the ground for more than a few days. Severe weather is rare since the state is east of the center of tornado activity, south of most winter blizzard conditions and too far inland for hurricanes. Hailstorms occur maybe two or three times per year. Thunderstorms are common in late spring and summer.
