Coker Creek Village is located near the Cherokee National Forest in southeast Tennessee, approximately 25 miles north of Copperhill and 35 miles south of Sweetwater. This is the historical gold district of Tennessee, near three popular mountain rivers – the Tellico River, known for its’ trout fishing, the Hiwasee River, known for its’ tubing and float trips, and the Ocoee River, known for its’ whitewater rafting and the site of the 1996 Olympics. Fishing and gold panning is also popular in Coker Creek, or you can go horseback riding, hiking, kayaking, mountain biking, rappelling and mountain climbing, gemstone mining or camping. Coker Creek Falls, known as “Waters of Many Steps,” is seven miles from Coker Creek Village, and is a beautiful site nestled deep in the Cherokee National Forest. Also just seven miles from the village is Buck Bald, which offers breathtaking panoramic views of the North Caroline, Tennessee and Georgia Mountains. The village of Coker Creek is near the Cherohala Skyway and the Ocoee Recreation Center, which was the site of many of the U.S. Olympic Whitewater events. Nearby Sweetwater is home to The Lost Sea, America’s largest underground lake, which is part of an extensive cave system called Craighead Caverns.

Coker Creek Weather & Climate

Southeastern Tennessee has a temperate climate with four seasons. Winters are generally short and mild, and summers are warm and humid, with cooler temperatures in the high mountain regions. Rain is common year round. The average annual snowfall for the state is 12 inches. Spring comes in early March with warmer weather and flowering trees and shrubs. Summer arrives full force in the region by mid May, bringing warm weather and higher humidity. The mountains of eastern Tennessee are a great place to escape the hot summer temperatures as the higher elevation cools the air slightly. Fall brings mild days and crisp evenings, along with brilliant foliage colors. Mid to late October is a good time to visit the region to experience the fall color change. Severe weather, such as tornadoes or blizzards, is rare in the state of Tennessee.
