Buchanan is a small, unincorporated community located in northwest Tennessee next to Paris Landing State Park. The 841-acre State Park is situated along the western shore of Kentucky Lake and is one of the major recreational centers in northwest Tennessee. Once the site of a steamboat landing along the Tennessee River, the state park features a large marina and 18-hole golf course, resort inn, cabins, restaurant, two swimming pools, tennis courts, picnicking and campgrounds. Kentucky Lake is 160,000 acres in size and was formed when the Tennessee River was dammed. The lake is especially popular with those who love fishing and boating and other water sports. Its a perfect spot for relaxation and wildlife viewing, where you may spot deer, turkey, fox and coyote or eagles in the winter months. If you enjoy hiking, Paris Landing State Park also features a self-guided trail system that is three miles long and consists of two trails. In addition, the town of Buchanan is situated in what is known as the “Land Between the Lakes” region of Tennessee where over 100 miles of hiking trails are found. Other activities in the area include the annual “Summer in the Park,” concert series which takes place every Saturday from May to July in Paris Landing State Park.

Buchanan Weather & Climate

Central Tennessee has a moderate four-season climate with warm, humid summers and mild, wet winters. Rainfall is distributed fairly evenly throughout the year, and thunderstorms are common in spring and summer. The higher elevations of the Smokies, Blue Ridge and Appalachian Mountains are generally cooler in the summer and colder, more blustery in the wintertime. Fall tends to be the dry season, due to the higher frequency of slow-moving high-pressure systems. Average annual snowfall ranges from 4-6 inches in the south and west to over 10 inches in the east. Due to the mild winter conditions over most of the state, snow cover rarely lasts for more than a few days. Severe storms, such as tornadoes, are infrequent in Tennessee, and when they do occur, it%u2019s usually west of the Cumberland Plateau.
