Big Sandy
is a tiny town of approximately 500 residents, located in Benton County, in northwestern Tennessee. This small, quiet community is situated on beautiful Kentucky Lake about 16 miles from Paris, Tennessee and less than 100 miles from Nashville. The town was named for the Big Sandy River – the first building was erected in 1871 and it incorporated as a town in 1903. The area is well known for its fishing and duck hunting and Big Sandy is host to an annual Water Fowl Festival, where thousands come each year to win a chance at the duck blind drawing. Other nearby towns include Camden and Holladay. Attractions near the town of Big Sandy include the Patsy Cline Memorial, the Tennessee River Folklife Center and the Tennessee Boat School/Sandra Lynn Boat Works. Visitors can rent a cabin or a pontoon boat at the Birdsong Resort, Marina and Campground and also go swimming, hiking and picnicking. The Fresh Water Pearl Museum is also located at the Birdsong Resort, which offers tours of the pearl farm and a gift shop where visitors can purchase fresh water pearl jewelry. The Nathan Bedford Forrest State Park is also located near Big Sandy, situated on the western bank of the Kentucky Lake and featuring primitive camping, hiking trails, picnicking areas, fishing, boating and skiing.

Big Sandy Weather & Climate
The climate of the northeastern Tennessee mountains is temperate with moderately cold winters and warm, humid summers. Precipitation is fairly well distributed throughout the year; as there is no distinct wet or dry seasons. October has the least rainfall, July the most. Snowfall is quite variable from year to year, and some winters have relatively little. Thunderstorms occur anytime of the year, but are most frequent in spring and summer. Summer temperatures are rarely extreme, but the high humidity often makes it seem hotter than it actually is. Snow is minimal in Tennessee except in the higher mountain regions. Severe storms are infrequent in the state, being east of the center of tornado activity, south of most blizzard conditions, and too far inland to be affected by hurricanes.
