Alpine
is a small town located in beautiful Overton County in the north central part of Tennessee. Outdoor activities abound near Alpine, with swimming, boating and fishing, camping, hiking and horseback riding being just a few of fun things to do in this area. Alpine is near Standing Stone State Park, which is 11,000 acres on the Cumberland Plateau. The interesting name for the park comes from the “Standing Stone,” an eight foot high rock that stood upright on a sandstone ledge, and supposedly was used as a dividing line between two Native American Indian nations. This scenic park is known for its spring wildflowers, fossils, and other natural diversity. It has camping, hiking trails, fishing, boating, an Olympic size pool for swimming, tennis, volleyball and basketball courts, and covered picnic pavilions with concrete floors and grills. Alpine is also near Dale Hollow Lake, famous for its fishing tournaments for Largemouth, Kentucky Walleye, Catfish, Bluegill, and Crappie. Nearby towns to Alpine include Livingston, Crawford, Monroe and Rickman.

Alpine Weather & Climate

Northeastern Tennessee has four distinct seasons with cold winters and hot summers. Spring and autumn can be varied and unpredictable with thunderstorms and strong winds. The general patterns of weather, however, are most affected by topography; the higher mountain regions tend to have milder summers and colder, more blustery winters. The mountainous eastern region is one of the wettest parts of the state. Most of the precipitation occurs in winter and early spring due to more frequent passage of large-scale, frontal storm systems over the region. A secondary maximum of precipitation occurs in midsummer with lots of shower and thunderstorm activity. Due to the relatively mild winter conditions, snow cover rarely stays on for more than a few days. Severe storms are relatively infrequent in the state.
